My favorite type of wood to find, especially when I peel the bark off, not knowing the wood is spalted beneath, and see what I've found. Spalting happens when a mold gets in under the bark, and changes the colour to a much lighter tone. This set not only has spalting, but an amazing void in the sapwood to reveal the heartwood, which in this case is a cool black.
